    Student IT Induction

    For Attended Diploma/HND/BSc/MSc courses

    • Getting Started With Your RBGE User Account

      When you join RBGE as an MSc, HND, BSc or Diploma in Herbology (Attended) student, a user account will be created for you, giving access to our cloud services; library facilities and others. Please follow the steps below so that everything works as smoothly as possible for you.

    • Digital safety - some key tips for staying safe online

      • Keep your devices and software up-to-date
      • Avoid/Spot phishing attacks and online fraud
        • Phishing is when a criminal tricks you into downloading malware or tries to steal your information
        • If you are unsure about a link in an email, do not click anything. It could be an offer of something for free or a person pretending to be your bank, for example. Do not open any attachments from an unknown contact.
      • Lock your devices, set up multi factor authentication
      • Back up your data
      • Use unique passphrases for each of your accounts
      • Manage your digital footprint / social media safety

      As part of your induction training, you are required to review this guide from Police Scotland. This will equip you with information and advice which will increase your awareness and prepare you to be able to identify potential frauds and prevent the loss of your valuable data to those intent on stealing it.

    • Outlook on the Web

      For simplicity, we recommend Outlook on the Web for RBGE email access. 

      1. Sign out of any existing Microsoft accounts, or start a Private browsing session
      2. Visit Office.com 
      3. Sign-in with your RBGE credentials
      4. Choose Outlook from the left-hand menu.

    • Teams Training

      Your Course Supervisor or Tutor may advise you to connect to Microsoft Teams as part of your course.  You can find Teams at office.com, where you find all your other Microsoft apps. Watch this very short video for an introduction on how to use Teams.

      Again, as with email

      1. Either sign out of any other existing Microsoft accounts, open a different browser or start a 'Private browsing' session (sometimes called incognito) in your current browser. e.g. if you are signed in with a personal Microsoft account or with an SRUC Microsoft account. You cannot be signed into two Microsoft accounts because the browser has saved your current login credentials.
      2. Visit Office.com 
      3. Sign-in with your RBGE credentials
      4. Choose Teams from the left-hand menu.

    • For MSc Students – Joining a Teams meeting Pagina
      This is a quick intro to Teams and your Class Calendar. You will need to use Teams and the Class Calendar to access your online lectures in the MSc.

    • Using Universal Print

      In order to use Universal Print, you must be running Windows 10 or later and have your RBGE account added to your machine. This happens automatically on RBGE owned devices or personal ones with Office applications installed. For personal devices without Office installed, you can add the account via Settings -> Accounts -> Email & Accounts -> Add a workplace or school account.

      Windows 11:

      Go to Start -> Settings -> Bluetooth & devices -> Printers & scanners

      Click the blue Add device button, then after a few seconds the Search for devices button should be visible.

      Change the drop down to Work or school

      After a few seconds a list of printers should appear. You can narrow down the search by typing in keywords or selecting a search location, otherwise just select the printer you want to use and click the Add device button next to it.

       

      Windows 10:

      From Settings, click Devices -> Printers & scanners and then Add a printer or scanner. The very first time you do this you'll need to select the option to search for work or school devices.

      After a second or two, a list of printers will be presented with the building name/floor number/room number underneath. Note that you'll only be able to see printers you have access to.

      You can select a location or enter a keyword to narrow down the search. Simply select the printer you want and click the Add device button to start using it.

      When you want to print a document, simply select the required printer from the print menu. Note that most printers will operate on a QR code release system, so when you approach the printer, scan the QR code with your mobile phone and then select the print job to release. This ensures that documents remain secure and also helps prevent accidental prints while off-site.

  • You may be provided with a PropaGate Learning (online learning) account to allow access to online materials during your course. PropaGate Learning is where you can access materials, use discussion forums and upload work.

    Students on the MSc course will receive details by RBGE email with your user account and password details. This is separate to your RBGE login and allows you to login to this site.

    Students studying through SRUC will be given access to their online learning environment directly from SRUC.

  • Your first port of call for help should be to email studentsupport@rbge.org.uk who can advise how best to proceed.
