Art projects:

Making snails from paper and newspaper

You will need:
  • Some plain or coloured paper, or cartridge paper or thin card
  • A sheet of old newspaper
  • Pencils or pens to decorate your snail
  • A ruler, a pen and a piece of sticky tape

1. Coiled paper snails

Cut a piece of coloured paper or thin card into strips and decorate one side with patterns

Roll the strip around a pencil or curl it on the edge of a ruler to make a spiral. The pattern should be on the outside.

2. The Daily Snail – newspaper snail

1. Take a sheet of old newspaper and roll it up as tightly as you can to make a long, thin tube

2. Wrap your long tube tightly round to start coiling the shell

3. When it is done, use a little piece of sticky tape to stop the coiled shell unravelling. Leave a little bit free to make the snail’s ‘head’.

4. Curl the head end round to make the face and mouth
